Visiting Famous Performers – Blacksburg Connection

Green Book listings in Montgomery County were limited, and Christiansburg’s Eureka Hotel—operated by the Morgan family from the 1930s into the 1970s—was the only local lodging included.

So it raises a fascinating question: when legendary performers like Cab Calloway (Jan. 18, 1963) and Duke Ellington (Apr. 15, 1964) came to Virginia Tech for the Ring Dances, where did they stay? Were they welcomed nearby, or forced to continue down the road after their sets were done?

We’ve been digging into the history — stay tuned for what we found in our following post.
